Panelists’ bios:
1) Ruben Rathnasingham, PhD Assistant Dean for Health Product Innovation, Managing Director of Texas Health CoLab (Dell Medical School). Ruben Rathnasingham has more than 15 years of biomedical leadership experience in several companies founded on technologies invented and developed in academic institutions. In his current role as the assistant dean for health product innovation at Dell Medical School, he is responsible for creating and growing initiatives to support health-related translational research at UT Austin. Most recently, he was associate director of early translational research at the University of California, San Francisco, where he helped develop and led the UCSF Catalyst Program that successfully leveraged industry partners to help identify, support and translate technologies through and out of the university. Prior to his tenure in academia, Rathnasingham co-founded and grew a number of healthcare companies including StrataGent Life Sciences, where he helped develop a needle-free, wearable infusion pump that was honored with a 2010 Edison Award for Best New Product.
2) Stephanie Houghton, PhD Senior Lecturer and the director of the Masters in Economics program within the department of Economics at UT. She is a graduate of Duke University and has a number of YouTube videos on various aspects of economics. See one .
3) Gary B. Wilcox, PhD Gary Wilcox is a media and marketing scholar, currently the John A. Beck Centennial Professor in Communication in the Stan Richards School of Advertising & Public Relations. Dr. Wilcox is a globally-recognized expert on social media, alcohol advertising research, and branding. His opinions and work have been featured in such national and local media as CBS News, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, U.S. News and World Report, KUT public radio and AdWeek, among others. Dr. Wilcox holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University and two degrees from UT Austin. His most recent interests include unstructured data analysis, mix media modelling and advertisings effects on alcohol products and brands. Dr. Wilcox was recently featured on The Academic Minute discussing his alcohol advertising research. His publications include one book, several book chapters, and articles that have appeared in the International Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Digital and Social Media Marketing, Journal of Food Products Marketing, and Marketing Management Journal among others. Prior to entering the world of academia, Professor Wilcox worked as a songwriter/musician and photographer.
4) Deana Williams From the Graduate School, Deana Williams is the Associate Director of International Admissions, specifically focused on foreign processing & evaluation.
5) Stephany Noh, PhD candidate (Radio-TV-Film) Stephany was born and raised in Seoul, South Korea. She received her B.A. in English Language and Literature from Korea University and M.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Yonsei University. Her interest in media studies originates from 10 years of work experience in Korean television networks as a programming producer, ratings analyst, acquisition specialist, and production budget manager. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree at the Department of Radio-Television-Film at Moody College of Communication, University of Texas at Austin. Having witnessed the expansion of the Korean Wave first hand, she intends to investigate the cultural implications of the transnational phenomenon by researching the context of television programs, their global audiences, and the industry practices that are forming the global media of today.
6) Mirta Baselovic, Masters in Global Policy Studies (LBJ School of Public Affairs) Born in the former Yugoslavia, Mirta Baselovic is a Master of Global Policy Studies candidate at the LBJ School of Public Affairs (graduating December 2019). A dynamic leader with an interest in all things EU, she is focusing on human rights in multilateral settings as well as EU Enlargement Policy and International Trade. Upon graduation she plans to return to Europe to work for an EU-affiliated NGO. She holds a BS in Communications and experience in Grant Writing and Project Management. Prior to her graduate work, she played volleyball for the winning UT womens team. (See her former stats here)
