Welcome to an inspiring public talk by Shin Koyamada, an actor, producer, entrepreneur and philanthropist. Koyamada was born on March 10th, 1982 in Okayama, Japan and moved to Hollywood, California alone, not knowing anyone, having no place to stay, and not knowing how to speak English to pursue his childhood American dream at age of 18 in 2000.
As an actor, Koyamada became best known to global audiences after his co-starring debut role in the Warner Bros. blockbuster Tom Cruise film “The Last Samurai” (2004), with a worldwide box office of $456 million, earning it nominations for several awards, including four Academy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and two National Board of Review Awards. Koyamada became internationally well known among global youth after starring in the Disney Channel worldwide hit TV movie “Wendy Wu Homecoming Warrior”. Prior to his major debut in the American film, Koyamada appeared in major commercials such as Apple, Disneyland and JC Penny.
As a business entrepreneur, Koyamada is Chairman and CEO of Shinca Group founded in October 2005 in Los Angeles that owns several wholly-owned subsidiary companies. At Shinca Entertainment, Koyamada runs the company and produces story-telling American action motion picture films, TV shows, comic books, video games, animation and digital stickers. At Shinca Enterprise, the company focuses on international business matching representing its global corporate clients that vary from an American startup company to a Fortune Global 500 company in different industries such as agriculture, technology, retail, energy, mining, sports, foods and entertainment.
As a citizen diplomat, Koyamada became the first native-born Japanese to be appointed as Sister Cities International (SCI) National Board member in July 2017, the world’s largest citizen diplomacy network founded by President Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1956, representing more than 32,000 volunteers and 570 U.S. community members (cities, counties and states) with 2,300 sister partnerships in 150 countries on 6 continents.
Koyamada serves as several Special Ambassadors titles for several entities such as City of Kyoto, Okayama Prefecture, Japan-America Society of Southern California and Japan Karate Federation for Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics. Koyamada attended the Los Angeles City College where he studied general education and acting. Koyamada is a U.S. citizen, married to his Colombian wife and resides in Los Angeles.
