Please join us for a virtual discussion with  Latin American Band Miramar.

Reconnect with Latin American band Miramar, who toured Russia in March 2020, in a live discussion on Friday, 10 July. In the meantime, watch this Aleksandra Pakhmutova song, “Нежность” which they recorded for our audiences in Russia.

Miramar is a musical sextet that features the male-female singing duo of Rei Alvarez and Laura Ann Singh. They are backed by bandleader Marlysse Simmons who alternates between vintage organs and acoustic piano, guitarist Bryan Vargas, and a rotating cast of percussionists. Members live between Richmond, Virginia, and Brooklyn, New York, with strong ties to Puerto Rico, Chile and Brazil. Miramar explores the Latin American bolero tradition made popular by Mexican, Cuban, Puerto Rican, and New York bands of the 1940s and 1950s.
