To mark International Education Week, join Dr. Florence Dore, Professor of English at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, for a presentation and a live Q&A session on a the creative parallels between music and literature. Also an author and musician, Dr. Dore will discuss her latest literary work, Ink in the Grooves: Conversations on Literature and Rock ‘n’ Roll, which brings together a remarkable array of acclaimed novelists, musicians, and music writers to explore the provocatively creative relationship between musical and literary inspiration.

About the guest speaker:

Dr. Florence Dore, who received her BA in English from Wesleyan University, and her PhD in English at the University of California at Berkeley,  teaches contemporary fiction, the American novel, and songwriting at UNC-Chapel Hill.  Also, an author and musician, her latest literary work, Ink in the Grooves: Conversations on Literature and Rock ‘n’ Roll, brings together a remarkable array of acclaimed novelists, musicians, and music writers to explore the provocatively creative relationship between musical and literary inspiration. Dore takes an autoethnographic approach in her introduction and discusses how in her undergraduate days she found herself reading elite, high-art literature by day, and performing popular, “lowbrow” rock music by night."
