To mark International Education Week, join American students Rebecca Tone and Kira Foster on November 18 at 7:30 p.m. MSK for a presentation on their academic journey in U.S. universities and for a live Q&A session. Guest speakers will share their advice about each stage from application to acceptance to enrollment.

About the guest speakers:

Rebecca Tone is in her fourth and final year at Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service, majoring in Culture & Politics with a concentration in Education & Criminal Justice. She is also pursuing a double minor in Environmental Studies and Russian Literature & Culture. Outside of her studies at Georgetown, Rebecca is currently interning in the Bureau of European & Eurasian Affairs’ Office of Press & Public Diplomacy at the U.S. Department of State, and in the Policy & Government Affairs Department at World Wildlife Fund. In recent years, she has also served as a research assistant to a former U.S. Ambassador, interned at the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, worked on a local political campaign, and volunteered at her community food bank. Rebecca is originally from New Jersey, but now lives in Washington, D.C., where she loves to visit art & history museums, see plays & musicals, try new restaurants, and explore the city.

Kira Foster is in her third- and final- year at The Ohio State University majoring in International Relations and Russian language. She is minoring in Dance and is in the process of completing a certificate in professional translation and interpretation. Kira currently holds a total of four professional positions. She is a Resident Advisor for a first- and second- year dorm on campus, a student assistant with the Intercultural English Language Program through the Department of Teaching and Learning, and a research intern for a professor in the Department of Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures researching and analyzing the collective memory of failed wars (the Vietnam War and the Soviet-Afghan War) through a journalistic lens. Kira is also an intern with the Bureau of European and Eurasian Affairs’ Office of Press and Public Diplomacy with the U.S. Department of State. Kira has previously worked for a nonprofit, Heart to Heart International, where she continues her involvement through volunteering in a data administration role. She also volunteers with US Together, a nonprofit created to help refugees become accustomed to life in the U.S. as an English language conversation partner. Outside of work, Kira is part of a dance organization on campus, Studio Dance at OSU, with whom she will be performing with this December, and she dabbles in powerlifting. Kira is originally from Kansas, is a heritage Russian language speaker, and has been independently studying French for the past few years.
