Malik Stewart aka “Malik DOPE” is an internationally known percussionist, dancer, recording artist, producer and educator from Washington DC. He started playing drums at 5 years old, and counts Go Go music, African drumming and dance, and marching bands as his biggest influences. Malik will share his experience getting to the Semi-Finals of America’s Got Talent and answer questions live about how percussion and performance can have a positive influence on urban communities.

About the guest speaker:

Malik Stewart aka “Malik DOPE” is an internationally known percussionist, dancer, recording artist, producer and educator from Washington DC.  He started playing drums around the age of 5 years old, with his roots stemming from DC Go Go music, African drum and dance and marching band culture. He started out gaining fame locally as a street performer to going viral all over the internet from his high energy performance content. As he founded his own arts, production and design company called “DOPEWAE”, Malik has performed and taught all over the world as a solo artist and featured with highly known celebrities while also using his platform to bring awareness to certain issues in his community. In this time he has also created his own unique style of drum and dance called “WAE-Work”, which is the act of simultaneously using rudimental drumming techniques with stick trick acrobatics accompanied by freestyle dance or fixed choreography, utilizing the whole human body all in one. Malik’s last big highlight was in 2020 as he was a contestant on the hit TV show America’s Got Talent, finishing as a semi-finalist. He is now focused on creating music and spreading more DOPE vibes all around the world with his debut album “Light Being” available on all streaming platforms and has been performing it all around the world to date.
