AMC Online | Mindful Art for Stress Relief

Join biweekly sessions of the Mindful Art for Stress Relief program to practice reducing stress through simple but effective artistic exercises suitable for everyone, regardless of their artistic abilities, and practice English along the way.

It is well known that art can make your life better, reduce stress, minimize anxiety, and lift your mood. The program Mindful Art for Stress Relief is all about getting to know yourself and expressing your emotions through simple but effective artistic exercises.

In biweekly online sessions of the Mindful Art for Stress Relief program, we are going to talk about psychological aspects of stress and use various artistic methods and activities to free our minds of burdening thoughts. You don’t need to be an artist or even know how to draw to participate. All you need is stress (not mandatory) and the desire to get rid of it.

Requirements: These biweekly sessions are open to everyone and best suited for teenagers and adults with an Intermediate English language level and above. There are no artistic requirements to participate. For all exercises, you will need a piece of paper and a pencil / pen. You will be able to use all the techniques and exercises on your own outside of the program.

Led by: AMC volunteer Yuliya Gryaznova, a passionate, self-motivated graphic designer with 10+ years of experience, and a 2011 FLEX alumna.


Schedule and topics of the Mindful Art for Stress Relief program:

  • January 16 at 6:00 p.m. MSKUnlock your imagination
    We will be doing a simple graphic exercise that will help unlock our imagination and allow us to take our minds off everything. During the exercise, we will reboot our brain and put it on a creative track.

  • January 30 at 6:00 p.m. MSK“I could’ve done that myself”
    This is a continuation of the first session, where we will try ourselves as graphic artists and create an abstract composition using only lines. This exercise will help us focus on one thing and see it through to the end, thereby reducing anxiety.

  • February 13 at 6:00 p.m. MSK — Mandala
    The mandala is a path inward, an endless circle that will allow us to focus on our feelings and express them through repetitive forms. Instead of drawing a classic mandala, together with the participants we will try to create our own unique mandala from the shapes that we like.

  • February 27 at 6:00 p.m. MSK — Just doodle it
    In this session, we will learn how to draw small but capacious illustrations to distract ourselves from bad thoughts and give ourselves a break.

  • March 13 at 6:00 p.m. MSK — Being Malevich
    This session is devoted to graphic compositions from simple geometric shapes. We will try to create our own stable composition on a limited sheet space. This exercise will give us an understanding of balance in general and will allow us to determine our level of balance right now.

  • March 27 at 6:00 p.m. MSK — Contemporary art
    Contemporary art is sometimes incomprehensible, together with the participants we will find our own idea for a modern painting. We will try to free ourselves from the expectations of society and come up with a unique idea that reflects our worldview.

  • April 10 at 6:00 p.m. MSK — Color blocks
    We will choose our own color palette that resonates with our inner world. Working with color associations will allow us to understand and identify the colors of our emotions and change them to more positive ones.
