If you are an avid reader who watches film adaptations of your favorite books and enjoys debating the filmmaker’s choices with your friends, Books versus Movie Adaptations: Discussion Club was designed with you in mind. And the best part? You won’t have to read a book or watch a movie in advance because we’ll read book excerpts and watch coinciding movie scenes during the event!

Led by: AMC volunteer Anastasiia Klepinina, a student on a gap year, photographer, active volunteer.

Open to: Teenagers and adults with intermediate to advanced English language skills.

Perfect for: Book lovers who want to expand their vocabulary and comprehension of English by debating the eternal question: Which was better, the book or the movie?

Meets: Every other Wednesday at 5:00-6:00 p.m. MSK on Zoom.

The books and movies we are discussing in January 2023:

• January 18 at 5:00 p.m. MSK — Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, a fantasy novel written by British author J. K. Rowling, the third in the Harry Potter series, and its 2004 film adaptation directed by Alfonso Cuarón and starring Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter, alongside Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. The book and the film follow Harry’s third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and his quest to uncover the truth about his past, including the connection recently-escaped Azkaban prisoner Sirius Black has to Harry and his late parents. 12+
