What does it take to write a winning opening to a piece of expository writing, such as a review? One common recommendation is to think about your target audience: engage your reader, pique their interest, and keep them hooked. What does keeping the reader on the page mean and how can you, as the writer, achieve it?

If you are looking for answers to these questions, join the Teacher2Teacher workshop on February 14 at 7 p.m. MSK, conducted by devoted amateur writer and English language teacher Evgeniya Karabatova.

In this workshop, you are going to:

  • learn what makes a good introduction for the CPE review: its aims and structure;
  • discover what a hook is and how to tell a good opening line from a bad one;
  • understand what comes next once you’re done with your captivating first line;
  • write your own introduction paragraph for a CPE review about unusual accommodation.

This 90-minute writing workshop will provide discussion, exercises, and writing practice that will help you improve your writing skills. While it will focus on writing for CPE, this workshop will also be beneficial to those who are passionate about writing in general.

❕ Please note that this is a workshop, not a webinar, and participants will be expected to work on and produce a short piece of writing. Join this workshop only if you intend to complete writing exercises and prompts, and make sure you join in the first 20-30 minutes.

The workshop is facilitated by Evgeniya Karabatova, AMC volunteer and a certified English-language teacher (TESOL, CPE, IELTS).
