The American Center in Moscow’s monthly Meet a Poet series returns on March 27 with American poet Catherine Anderson. Tune in online at 6:00 p.m. MSK to hear her read her poems live and answer questions from the audience!

Author of four full-length collections of poetry, a memoir, and numerous essays and recipient of awards in poetry from the Massachusetts Artists’ Foundation, the I-70 Review, and the Crab Orchard Review, Catherine Anderson brings 27 of her poems to share with the online audience. About the guest speaker/poet:

Catherine Anderson’s most recent work is a memoir, My Brother Speaks in Dreams, Of Family, Beauty & Belonging (Wising Up Press), about growing up with her brother Charlie who had intellectual disabilities with autistic traits. For almost twenty years she has worked with immigrant and refugee communities in Kansas City where she currently lives. She also facilitates the Kansas City Writer’s Place Poetry Reading Circle where participants gather monthly to discuss poems and poets. For two decades she worked in Boston as a teacher and writer, primarily focused on the lives of new immigrants. She has received awards in poetry from the Massachusetts Artists’ Foundation (many years ago), and more recently, the I-70 Review and the Crab Orchard Review. She has published four full-length collections of poetry including, Everyone I Love Immortal (Woodley Press), Woman with a Gambling Mania (Mayapple Press), The Work of Hands (Perugia Press) and In the Mother Tongue (Alice James Books). She participated in a group translation project of the classical poet Nonnus’ Tales of Dionysus,  published in the summer of 2022 by the University of Michigan Press.

About the moderator:

Zamira Atlukhanova is a literary enthusiast who loves reading books, discussing them, and putting words on paper. Born and raised in Dagestan, Russia, she studied in the USA and now holds an MA from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in Literary and Cultural Studies. She is the author of several short stories and a course on critical reading and writing at Moscow School of Social and Economic Sciences.
