The American Center in Moscow invites English learners of all ages, backgrounds, and speaking abilities to join us on Zoom for weekly meetings of the English Conversation Club every Thursday at 20:00 MSK. 

Each session, 6-8 native English-speaking hosts facilitate breakout rooms, which are divided by level of English proficiency (Beginner A1/A2, Intermediate B1, Upper Intermediate B2, and Proficient C1/C2). You are able to choose which room feels like the best fit based on your confidence in English conversation, and you can change rooms at any time throughout the meeting. Each week, discussions are supplemented by a new list of topics & questions.

The English Conversation Club is a wonderful opportunity to practice your English conversation skills under the guidance of native speakers, meet new people, and engage in interesting conversations with people from around the world. We hope to see you there!

Topics for Thursday, October 30th

Topic #1: Free Time

• How do you like to spend your free time? 
• Do you feel like you need more free time in your life to do what you love? 
• How often do you think about time? 
• Do you ever waste your time? How so? 
• What stage(s) in our lives do we have all the time in the world? 
• Do you think that time flies when you’re having fun?

Topic #2: Artificial Intelligence

• What excites you the most about AI?
• What scares you the most about AI?
• What AI tools have you used? How have these helped you in your day-to-day life?
• Do you think AI will always want to support or serve humanity? Why or why not?
• Overall, do you think AI will have a positive or negative impact on humans?

Topics for Thursday, November 6th

Topic #1: Urban vs Rural Living 

• Would you rather live in a busy city or in the quiet countryside, and why? 
• Do you prefer historical or modern cities? Why? 
• What are the advantages and disadvantages of living in a big city? 
• If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you choose? 
• When you visit a new city, which places do you go to first? 

Topic #2: Imagination

• If you could be a character in any movie or book, who would you be and why?
• What question would you ask your future or past self?
• If you had the opportunity to switch careers for a week, what profession would you explore? 
• If you could possess any superpower, what would it be?
