About the Speaker:
Daniel M. Shea is a Professor of Government at Colby College. He is an expert on electoral politics, having written or edited more than 20 books and numerous articles and papers. Much of this work has focused on party organizations, young voters, civility in politics, and most recently rural voter dynamics. In 2019, he penned Why Vote? Essential Questions About the Future of Elections in America (Routledge), a work that explores the dramatic shifts we have seen since the turn of the 21st Century. In collaboration with Nicholas Jacobs, Sheas latest book, The Rural Voter: The Politics of Place and the Disuniting of America (Columbia University Press, 2023), presents a meticulously crafted exploration of the evolving landscape of rural politics in the United States. Praised for its depth and insight, one reviewer lauds the work as potentially the most comprehensive study of rural voters to date, offering a treasure trove of new findings that challenge prevailing notions about urban-rural voter distinctions. Sheas expertise has been sought after by various prestigious news outlets, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and CNN, where he provides insightful election commentary.
