Elaine Equi is the author of ten collections of poetry, including, Voice-Over, which was chosen by Thom Gunn to receive the San Francisco State Poetry Award (1998), and Ripple Effect: New & Selected Poems, which was a finalist for the L.A. Times Book Award and on the short list for Canada’s International Griffin Poetry Prize (2007). Ripple Effect was also named a New York Times Notable Book. Widely published and anthologized, her work has appeared in journals such as The American Poetry Review, The Nation, The New Yorker, The Paris Review, and Poetry. Her work is also included in The Norton Anthology of Postmodern American Poetry, and six editions of The Best American Poetry. Known for her witty, aphoristic, and innovative style, Equi has said of her poems, “My work has been informed by a wide range of influences including surrealist, concrete, and classical Chinese poetry, so it’s not unsophisticated – just willfully direct in a minimalist sort of way.” She has taught in many creative writing programs, including those of Columbia College, New York University, City College of New York, and The New School.
