Please join us to learn more about the impacts of youth hockey beyond the rink. Come prepared with questions for Mark Jorgensen and Jim Haynes, who have years of experience in hockey coaching and management. In this talk, Mark and Jim will also discuss how hockey can be used to enhance people-to-people diplomacy, cultural exchanges, and exposure to new cultures.

About the speakers: 

Mark Jorgensen was the Director of Minnesota Hockey for seven years.  Minnesota Hockey is the governing body for over 50,000 youth hockey players in the state of Minnesota.  He was the first American to play hockey in the Soviet Elite League as a goalie for the Krilya Sovetov junior team in 1988.  He also led youth hockey clinics in Belarus and helped to restart youth hockey in Uzbekistan. In 2007, he was the team leader for the U.S. National team at the U20 World Hockey Championships in Kazan, Russia.

Jim Haynes grew up playing minor hockey in Minnesota in the United States. He finished his playing career at the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey Association – Club Hockey) level while he studied to obtain his degree in Economics. He has coached minor and High School hockey in Minnesota for over 10 years. He and his wife have 3 daughters aged 7, 4, and 2. Their oldest currently participates in minor hockey and figure skating club, with her sisters not far behind – he has really enjoyed watching their children discover skating and hockey for themselves.
