History is all around us, and everyday so-called "public historians" make that possible. The museums we visit, the libraries we study in, the archives that hold important documents and the memorials that decorate our streets and public squares are all made possible by public historians communicating about history to public audiences. Jason Steinhauer has a had a 20+ year career in public history, working in museums, libraries, archives, government, think tanks and as a bestselling author. In this conversation, moderated by Alice Kamps, he’ll talk about curating exhibits at a Holocaust museum, discovering rare music inside the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame, creating an archive in the Dominican Republic and working at the world’s largest library, the U.S. Library of Congress.

Bio: Jason Steinhauer is a bestselling author and public historian operating at the intersection of tech, media, and history. He is the author of History, Disrupted: How Social Media & the World Wide Web Have Changed the Past; former Global Fellow at The Wilson Center; Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute; and Founding Director of the Lepage Center for History in the Public Interest. He previously worked at the Library of Congress and as a museum curator and archivist. He has spoken across the U.S. and around the world, and he frequently appears in the news media. His Substack newsletter is read in 49 states and 109 countries, and his expired passport resides in the National Museum of American Diplomacy.
