On Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at 19:00 MSK, please join us for a virtual talk with Olivia Wilson, who trained at the French Culinary Institute and worked in some of America’s most celebrated kitchens before stepping away to build an independent, multidisciplinary practice. Today, she creates custom cakes, leads hands-on workshops, and produces large-scale paintings using raw canvas, natural dyes, and food waste as artistic materials.

In this conversation, Olivia will reflect on forging a creative life across disciplines, the value of working with one’s hands, and the possibilities that emerge from leaving the expected path. This talk is moderated by artist and Williams College professor Pallavi Sen.

About the speakers:

Born and raised in the Shenandoah Valley, baker and painter, Olivia Wilson attended The French Culinary Institute in NYC and received a degree in Pastry Arts. After graduating she went on to work at Bouchon, Per Se and The Inn at Little Washington. She spent some time learning about winemaking, working on a family run vineyard in Austria. Once she landed in Richmond, VA, she created a pastry and bread program at Metzger Bar and Butchery and again at Brenner Pass in Richmond, VA. In early 2020, Olivia left the full-time restaurant scene to focus on community driven initiatives and her own creative journey. Olivia offers workshops, menu consultations, and of course, custom cake orders. When she’s not in the kitchen, Olivia makes works using oil based paints, raw canvas, natural dyes and materials. She is currently working on methods of redirecting food waste into painting mediums.

Born in 1989, Pallavi Sen is from Bombay, India. She works with installation, printmaking, textiles, Instagram, and intuitive movement. She received her MFA in Sculpture + Extended Media from the Virginia Commonwealth University and has been a fellow + artist in residence at Shandaken Projects: Storm King, Mildred’s Lane, Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, Ox-Bow School of Art, Byrdcliffe at Woodstock, Wormfarm Institute, Yale Norfolk School of Art, Hambidge Center, and ACRE. She is an Assistant Professor of Multiples + Distributed Art at Williams College, and lives/walks in the Berkshires.
