American Center is excited to invite you to a special meeting with famous American sculptor Don Gummer on Thursday, June 7 at 20:00 — 21:30.
Don will be in Russia for the installation of his new work on the U.S. Embassy grounds. In 2014, The Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies (FAPE) commissioned Don Gummer to create a sculpture for the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia. His work is the 18th work commissioned for FAPE’s Site-Specific Collection.
Don Gummer is an American sculptor. His early work concentrated on table-top and wall-mounted sculpture; but, in the mid-1980s, he shifted his interest to large free-standing works, often in bronze. In the 1990s, he added a variety of other materials, such as stainless steel, aluminum and stained glass. His interest in large outdoor works also led him to an interest in public art.
“My work for Moscow will express the openness and optimism of America. I am proposing a tall, vertical sculpture that will represent our multicultural energy, while remaining solid and well grounded. It is important that it reflect both the individuality and interconnectedness of our countries. It is an honor to share my work with the Russian community, and I appreciate FAPE’s dedication to the project.”
