More than five hundred indigenous nations live in the United States today. They once comprised the majority of the population and inhabited the land. To understand the meaning of the word "resilience" we need to turn to Native American history and cultural heritage. During this new series of lectures we will talk about Native American culture transformed by relationships with European settlers and the U.S. government.
This is the second lecture of the series and it will continue discussing diversity of native nations in the U.S. region by region. We will talk about reservations and boarding schools as part of "Americanization" of native tribes and its consequences.
